Recently, the first test metro entered the new station Hoek van Holland Strand. The Metro aan Zee project has thus entered its final phase. In the coming weeks, extensive testing will continue between the stations Haven and Strand. After that, we will carry out the final works at the stations. The next stop: welcoming passengers.
In the combination ABS aan Zee, Swietelsky Rail Benelux is working with Boskalis Nederland on the railway extension of the Hoekse Lijn, including stations and structures. If you are in De Hoek, you can no longer miss the new route. The tunnel sections are discreetly positioned under the dune sand, and the intersections Strandboulevard and Strandweg have been constructed. The tracks are laid, and the overhead line is hanging. On the seaside, metro station Strand is prominently displayed. Soon, the first passengers will be able to take the metro to the beach.
Station at the beach
Recently, we, together with Boskalis, completed the metro station Hoek van Holland Haven and laid the railway from Haven to station Strand, including four level crossings. We also realized the open trough and tunnel between Strandweg and Strandboulevard. Finally, we constructed the elevated railway on a concrete foundation, between Strandboulevard and the beach. The new metro station Hoek van Holland Strand is also almost ready to welcome its first passengers.
What remains now is the preparation to connect Metro aan Zee to the existing metro line B. In the summer of 2022, the first passengers will disembark at the new metro station Hoek van Holland Strand.
About Metro aan Zee
In the Metro aan Zee project, we are extending – in the combination Boskalis Swietelsky – the Hoekse Lijn to the beach of Hoek van Holland. We are doing this on behalf of the metropolitan region Rotterdam - The Hague (MRDH, RET, and the municipality of Rotterdam) and with support from the province. The project includes, among other things, the realization of the railway extension of the Hoekse Lijn from station Hoek van Holland Haven to Hoek van Holland Strand, including the associated stations and structures. The metro line to the sea is intended to stimulate the use of public transport, improve the accessibility of the region, and boost tourism. From the summer of 2022, passengers will be able to use it.
