Official signing moment for the Maaslijn Upgrade project

27.11.2023

Last week was the official signing moment of the basic agreement for the Maaslijn Upgrade project. Together with the Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Water Management Vivianne Heijnen and John Voppen and Riet Schroven from ProRail John Weijtmans and Niek Lentink signed their names. We look forward with appropriate pride to working on sustainable infrastructure in the coming years and developing a modern railway line that passengers will benefit from for years to come.

Maaslijn Upgrade
The Maaslijn is a 88 km railway line that needs to be fully equipped with overhead lines, thus making the railway more sustainable and rendering diesel trains a thing of the past. Additionally, extra tracks need to be laid at Cuijk, Boxmeer, Venray, and Reuver to allow oncoming trains to pass each other. Also, at various locations, the curves in the track will be widened so that trains can maintain their speed and no longer need to brake. This will increase the travel speed from 100 to 140 kilometers per hour. Finally, we will improve the safety of over 20 level crossings spread across three provinces and nine municipalities. In short; a large-scale project involving many parties.
