Well before the summer of 2023, you will be able to get off at the new metro station “Hoek van Holland Strand.” For the “Metro aan Zee” project, Swietelsky is working with Boskalis on the track extension from Hoek van Holland Haven to Hoek van Holland Strand. The construction of the associated stations and civil structures is also being carried out by the ABS aan Zee consortium.

The client, “Metro aan Zee,” is responsible for the design of the new line and the surrounding infrastructure. The design of the new metro station and the future beach square takes into account the Kapittelduinen nature reserve, which is so characteristic of the area. Soon, passengers will be able to step straight out of the metro and onto the beach.

Collaboration and benefits for the region

The Municipality of Rotterdam is delivering the Metro aan Zee project on behalf of the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH). The Province of South Holland and RET are also contributing to the final section of the Hoekse Lijn between Hoek van Holland Haven station and the North Sea beach. Extending the metro line to the coast will encourage public transport use, improve regional accessibility, and boost tourism.
