As part of the electrification of the Maaslijn, we are going to build a traction substation in Boxmeer near the Stationsweg level crossing. The substation will be a building measuring 22.3m by 5.8m, which will blend into the surroundings thanks to its green cladding.

In Boxmeer, we are building one of the nine traction substations required for the electrification of the Maaslijn. Following a slight delay in the autumn of 2025, construction has now resumed.

During preparatory work in October 2025, a potential flint site was discovered. This was subject to an archaeological survey. The survey revealed that the site is not worthy of preservation. The site has been disturbed in the past by, among other things, an old sewer and existing cables and pipes. Consequently, no further investigation or preservation measures were required.

We have started excavating the access road to the substation and the construction pit. For the construction pit, we are digging a hole down to the bottom of the building’s foundations, after which a concrete foundation will be poured. We load the excavated soil onto lorries and transport it to another location. Following the groundworks, the concrete floor will be poured.
