In recent months, significant work has been done on the "Heerlen-Landgraaf Double Track" project. We laid cables and pipes deeper into the ground around the current viaduct of the Spoorstraat in Landgraaf. We also temporarily redirected the sewage system. The edge elements for the viaduct over the Euregioweg have been hoisted into place. Next to the tracks, we built two new viaducts. During the nine-week shutdown in March, we will move these viaducts to their final position in the embankment. In just a few hours, we will relocate the viaducts from the construction site about 50 meters:
- Saturday, March 19: viaduct Spoorstraat (Quaedvlieglaan) in Landgraaf
- Wednesday, March 23: viaduct Spoordamstraat (Glas mij-weg) in Heerlen
At each construction site, there is a viewing location from which you can safely get a good view of the viaduct.
During the relocation of the viaducts and the construction of the new track, we will use large machinery. This will create spectacular images! The construction activities can be easily followed from the public road, and we have set up a lookout point at two locations. Do you take the best construction photo? That’s not all we are doing during the nine-week shutdown. We are laying new track next to the existing track. We are also installing retaining walls at various locations along the track, building new overhead lines, and working at the Heerlen and Landgraaf stations. And did you know that we were able to reuse the materials from the "Heerlen de Kissel" station? And that the materials that are no longer suitable for the double track have been made available to the South Limburg Steam Train Company?
